    Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos participated in the 9th International Conference on Meteorology and Climatology of the Mediterranean (MetMed), held in Genoa (Italy), presenting two posters:

    Climate indices and return period analysis to assess the long-term impact of climate change on olive crops in Peloponnese, Greece
    Μicro-climate assessment of pilot areas through an installed meteorological network on Andros Island, Greece

    Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos participated in the 3-days workshop for Adaptation of climate change in the Region of Western Macedonia on the framework of LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project. Dr. Giannakopoulos had an oral presentation titled : Climate Change projections for the Region of Western Macedonia

    Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos was one of the speakers in the 2-days conference of the PINDOS NETWORK, on the topic: "Climate Change - Causes - Consequences -Municipal Measures and Plans to Reduce Carbon Emissions" ,September 2, 3 and 4, 2022, Pyli, Trikala, Greece . Dr. Giannakopoulos' speech was titled : Climate Change, extreme phenomena and impacts on Mountainous Central Greece.


  6. 56. 15 JUN 2022: Climate Change and Cultural Heritage

    Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos was one of the speakers in the webinar titled Climate Change and Cultural Heritage organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the frame of the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries.

    MED-GOLD General Assembly 2022 Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos held, with the other MED-GOLD partners, the project’s final General Assembly on 19-20 May 2022 at the headquarters of CREA in Rome, Italy. The discussions focused on the lessons learnt during the project, the legacy of the climate services developed for agriculture and on future collaborations

  9. 59. 01 APR 2022: Christos Giannakopoulos was a participant in the opening events for the “Weather Engines” exhibition

    Christos Giannakopoulos was a participant in the opening events for the “Weather Engines” exhibition in ONASSIS STEGI (Athens, Greece). “Weather Engines” explores the poetics, politics, and technologies of the environment from the ground to the sky, and from soil to atmosphere.

    A talk, titled “What’s with the weather?”, on climate change, extreme events and their impact by Christos Giannakopoulos (National Observatory of ATHENS) Response and discussion with writer and artist James Bridle (Aegina)

  • Rethink: Summer Holidays on BBC Radio 4 in the UK (live at 8pm ,2025-06-30). Dr Christos Giannakopoulos had an insightful conversation with the BBC radio presenter Ben Ansell, an Oxford University professor, about overtourism, climate change and the pressures of the traditional "summer holiday" model with a particular interest in Mediteranean destinations, which are affected by many of these issues. Dr Christos Giannakopoulos talked about the challenges of climate change for Greek tourism, about how the tourist economy is changing to get around the twin pressures of climate change (heat stress, energy for cooling) and overtourism, and about what Greek tourism might look like in 30 years time
